Right across the street from your apartment community is Burr Jones Park. Burr Jones spans just over four and a half acres on the Yahara River shoreline. While there is no bathroom or drinking water available, the park opens at four in the morning for all the early birds out there. However, because the park is located within a neighborhood, it does close rather early at ten o’clock at night. The park is equipped with two basketball courts, making it easy to coordinate games with your friends and family.
The Yahara shoreline makes early morning or late afternoon fishing outings easy, while the large open field can host multiple activities, such as a picnic or soccer game. A separate ultimate frisbee field helps keep any innocent park goers from getting ran over or hit by those in the midst of a tense game. There is an access point for the bike path that runs through the field at North Thornton Avenue and East Johnson Street. Burr Jones is one of Madison’s alcohol-free parks, making it great for young children to play at.
As long as your dog is licensed, leashed, and has a permit, you shouldn’t have an issue bringing your pooch here. The Madison Parks Department would like all park goers to know that glass is simply not permitted in any park, as well as all trash and recycling needs to put in the proper containers or packed out and taken with if there are no containers provided. Furthermore, driving and parking on the grass is never acceptable and may result in a citation.
