Why Living on Madison's Isthmus Gives You More Options

Living on the Isthmus is the ideal location for folks who like to be a hop-skip-and-a-jump from everything. If you like to spend your time on the water, The Marling is a perfect place for you.

At The Marling, you can get out on the water at a moments notice and enjoy quick access to Lake Mendota and Monona. We make the storage of your kayak or canoe easy.

Adjoining the community is a channel connecting the two lakes making it possible to paddle to both Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, so you always get to choose which lake to hang out on. Whether you want to get out before or right after work, or avoid the crowd at a busy launch site on the weekends.

Apartment living on the Isthmus is amazing but living in a waterfront apartment community in Madison with direct access to the water makes your life easier, saves you time and makes your life more enjoyable.

Located on East Washington Avenue, it’s a short distance Southwest to Madison’s capitol building and downtown, making for a great walk or bike ride.

If you’re looking to get out of town, forget paying to park your car at the airport, enjoy a short Uber Northeast to Dane County Regional Airport. If you’d rather drive, Interstates 90 and 94 are just up the road connecting you to the rest of the country! Looking to get involved in your community or see some live music? Breese Stevens Field is just down the street!

Coffee Shops, Restaurants, and Grocery Stores

The Marling is close to many great establishments and healthy grocery stores. You can support many great local businesses and rotate between them all.

Coffee enthusiasts can enjoy several nearby coffee locations, such as EVP, Mother Fools, and Stone Creek. Each one has their own atmosphere to accommodate any mood you’re in and what you’re seeking to accomplish.

Whether you just need something for the morning, looking for a cool place to lift your afternoon spirits, or just want somewhere to get some work done, each coffee shop will treat you as their neighbor!

Why drive all over town looking for a grocery store that has what you need? You will appreciate having a large selection of food items and products by having a Festival Foods and SuperCharge Foods in your neighborhood! Not only will you be able to find quality food for a fair price, but you will meet people with the same mindset looking to change humanity for the better with a healthy diet.

Together, you will be able to change the dietary status quo and make a positive impact on your community while still supporting small, local business. You can go out to eat and give your business to families living in the area at La Laan Xang Restaurant, El Sabor de Puebla, and Pasqual’s Cantina. Instead of giving your money to monstrous chains, you will eat-assured knowing your money is going to people just like you trying to make their way in this world.

Why give your business to Subway or Cousin subs when you can let a local Madison resident create an artisan sandwich for you at Stalzy’s Deli? Why settle for a generic loaf of bread when the artisans at Madison Sourdough work tirelessly to provide the community with the best possible bread available, all created from scratch?

Even if you don’t directly purchase from Madison Sourdough, you will most likely find their food at many establishments in Madison and even the greater South Wisconsin area!

Local Breweries

Wisconsin prides itself on the local brewers and even at-home brewers. Living at The Marling allows you to experience the product of these hardworking entrepreneurs. Just down the street is State Line Distillery, Parched Eagle Brewery, and Next Door Brewing Company. If you’re short on time, you have nothing to worry about. Drop into O’so Madhouse located inside The Marling!

Shopping and Style

The Marling is close to many excellent retail stores. From The Marling, you can easily make your way to the Fiore Shopping Center, Four Winds Clothing, Machinery Row Bicycles, Good Style Shop, and Screen Door Studio. Fiore Shopping Center will not only allow you to get professional financial assistance from H&R Block, but also enjoy numerous eateries and even catch a workout at Monkey Bar Gymnasium.

Catch all your makeup needs at A Beauty Supply and then get some grub at the food trucks in the lot when the weather allows.

Whether you’re looking to find one-of-a-kind apparel from the 1940s all the way to the 2000s, the folks at Good Style have you covered. The team here searches far and wide for the coolest clothing and jewelry. You can stop in, shop online, or even bring in clothes to sell. Stop by Good Style’s table at the Midwest Vintage Flea Market on September fourth and fifth at the Garver Feed Mill Event Hall!

Four Winds Clothing is ran by Madison local Rachel Roang who has been making clothes for over thirty years. Roang prides herself on creating clothes that can be worn multiple ways while still feeling amazing and lasting a long time. You can find Roang around the Midwest crafting and selling her clothes at Renaissance Fairs but will gladly make clothes for you when she is not in attendance. Her kinesiology studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison has helped her create clothing that mesmerizes while the wearer is in motion but still looks dashing while draped on a stationary body.

If you’re looking for a place to get custom shirts made for work or pleasure, support the small team at Screen Door Studio. The crew at Screen Door can print on any garment type and even make posters to help you promote any product, service or event.

The Veterans Museum, Wisconsin Public Radio, and UW Child Development Lab trust the staff at Screen Door to print their garments, and you should too! Stop by Machinery Row Bicycles to work with courteous professionals and find your next ride.

Join the movement and learn how you can decrease the carbon monoxide in the streets and be part of the cyclist community, even through the winter.

Locating all of these resources can be a challenge, luckily for you we put all of this in one spot, under our new Madison resident resources page.

You never have to worry about your child missing the bus or forgetting to pick them up as they will be able walk to and from school, kindergarten through twelfth grade! Whether your child attends Marquette Elementary School, O’Keefe Middle School, or Madison East High School, each school is only blocks from your front door!

You can rest assured your child will learn life-long skills as the Madison Area School District focuses on preparing their pupils to be, “college, career, and community ready” upon graduation. No matter what path your child wants to take, Madison schools will set them up for success.

If you or your child wants to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison or learn a trade at Madison Area Technical College, both are a short commute just up or down the road from The Marling. The short distance from The Marling to either college makes it possible to work while attending classes.

The Marling is a commuter-friendly apartment community that allows cyclists to ride to work. By not having to drive, take a taxi or Uber, or catch a bus, you will save money and be able to increase your budget and spend money on things you enjoy versus putting it towards fluctuating living expenses.
