In 1962, Chuck and Nancy Deadman had the dream for their very own candy and ice cream store. Through candy and ice cream made by hand, the two hoped to spread some happiness within their local community. The Deadman’s belief was, “that quality lies at the heart of every marvelous treat shop.” Holding true to this principle, the couple worked to create the greatest ice cream they could. Toiling batch after batch, making miniscule adjustments to recipes and the machines, Chuck Deadman was finally pleased with his unique flavors of ice cream for the store on Madison’s Monona Drive.
Sixty years later, Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company has expanded to four storefronts as well as their very own manufacturing plant right in Madison. Today, the plant now makes over one hundred flavors of ice cream and ships their award-winning flavors to over four hundred stand-alone restaurants and ice cream stores across the United States.
While Chuck and Nancy are both technically retired, good luck finding either of the two kicking their feet up. Nancy still makes it into “work” during the week while Chuck is either at the manufacturing plant or one of the storefronts in the area. Chuck and Nancy’s sons, Chuck Jr. and Dave Deadman, now oversee the operations of Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company.
