Over the last ninety years, Breese Stevens Field hosted many events. From musicians to athletes, the field has built a reputation in Madison. The grandstand was erected in 1926, but Breese Stevens Field wouldn’t host its first baseball game until four years later in 1930. The stone wall that surrounds the stadium wouldn’t be constructed until 1934 as part of a Civil Works administration project. Twelve years later, the New York Yankees actually held a tryout camp at the stadium in 1946.

The following year, the first electronic scoreboard was installed. Five years down the road, the Monarchs introduced their female second-base player Toni Stone in 1952. Another thirty years passed by, and Breese Stevens Field became authenticated as a soccer field. It wasn’t until 2014 when the City of Madison underwent the process of replacing the grass with turf that Breese Stevens Field fate would change.

In 2015, The Avett Brothers were the first musicians touring across the country to play at Breese Stevens Field! Ever since The Avett Brothers’ performance, Breese Stevens Field would go on to host more and more musical acts. In 2016, the field served as a stage for Steve Miller Band, WILCO, and CAKE. 2017 was Breese Stevens’ most eventful year, when Boston, The Avett Brothers, Darius Rucker, Garrison Keillor, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Ryan Adams featuring Emmylou Harris, and Modest Mouse would all hold separate shows at the Field.

Fast forward to present day, Breese Stevens Field is now known as “a multi-purpose stadium listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.” It’s founding partners are Festival Foods, Madison Gas and Electric, and Pepsi. Breese Stevens Field is available to rent for private or public events.
