Just three-quarters of a mile Southwest of the apartment community is an Ethiopian restaurant Buraka, over by McPike Park. If you’ve never had Ethiopian food, Buraka’s website describes it as, “a rich and exotic mix of spices, such as berbere, garlic, cardamom, ginger, cumin, coriander and curry powder.” You’ve probably had Chicken Tenders before, but you can try Tostones, which are simply deep fried Plantains.
Or maybe you want to try the Samosa, which is beef, chicken, or lentils minced and carefully deep fried, following a marinating process in several Ethiopian spices, as mentioned above. Perhaps you’d rather grab a dinner instead of an appetizer, and you order their most popular vegetarian dish, the “Misirwot.” You could play it safe with the most common chicken entrée known as “Dorowot,” or you could experience a Lamb dish, the “Begwot.”
Even if you just want to take your significant other out for dessert, there are multiple options, such as Mango Passion Fruit Cake and Banana Foster Ice Cream Cake. If you don’t like fruit in your dessert, you can always try their Chocolate Mousse Cake or Tiramisu, or take a risk and ask the server what seasonal desserts are being offered. Don’t you dare try to put down a dessert without a cup of Ethiopian Coffee or Herbal and Black Tea! If you’d rather drink your dessert, Buraka provides Jamaican Ginger Beer, Ting Grapefruit Soda, Mango Drink, as well as Sprecher Root Beer.
